  • September is Deaf Awareness Month and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper officially recognizes the Deaf community, culture and American sign language (ASL).

    The Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) has regional Deaf Services Specialists who are experts on Deaf culture, ASL and are trained as sign language proficiency evaluators. Please check out the calendar and DSDHH Facebook for regional Deaf awareness events!

  • Fig Nutrition Facts

    Figs are a good source of fiber, magnesium, and potassium. The following fig nutrition information is for one small raw fig measuring 1-1/2" in diameter (40g) provided by the USDA.

  • What Am I?

    Most eggplants are a glossy, oval-shaped vegetable with a purple- black color. There are also varieties of eggplants that are orange, white, red, or green that vary in shapes and sizes.

  • As part of their back to school training this week, our teachers participated in an interactive Kagan training to learn more effective strategies to actively engage their students in the learning process.

  • We were very excited to have a Harlem Globetrotter visit us on Wednesday during Operation Accelerate! The students had an amazing time learning basketball skills and even the staff joined in. A huge THANK YOU to Rocky Mount native, and Harlem Globetrotter, Jolly Manning! 🏀

    A fantastic night for our OA campers to go to a game of Wilson Tobbs baseball!

  • Day 1 of Operation Accelerate was a blast! Campers used their minds and materials to build tents, create art from nature, build bird houses, and played an exciting game of octopus tag.

  • It's graduation day and the seniors are taking advantage of their last day of high school with a little mischief!

  • Mikaela Brown's 10th and 11th grade physical science class used what they learned this semester to put on a science expo! From chemical reactions, magnetism, changes in states of matter, and more, the kids put on a great show filled with physics magic!

  • On Friday, April 26, ENCSD co-hosted a Deaf History Month Trivia Event with the NC DHHS Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Raleigh, Wilson, and Wilmington Regional Centers.  Students, parents, and community members enjoyed learning more about Deaf History by participating in trivia games and activities!

  • We have photos from Earth Day activities with two of our teachers, Ms. Fallon and Ms. Natasha.

    Ms. Fallon did an earth day activity with her students where they cleaned animals out of the "oil spill". 

    Ms. Natasha and two high school classes collaborated on an activity for Earth Day. Students experimented using different materials to clean up an "oil spill". 

  • We recognized the senior track athletes at their last track meet! Thank you for all of the support this year with all athletics. We look forward to next year and even more sporting events here at the ENCSD!

    North Carolina has pushed deaf children toward mainstream schools for decades. Now lawmakers want to give parents more choice to send their children to the two state schools in Morganton and Wilson.
