Mission

Vision

Every Deaf and Hard of Hearing child will have early access to language, communication, and high-quality educational opportunities, empowering them to learn, lead, and thrive throughout life.

Mission

The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) provides a language-rich, inclusive educational environment where Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and youth thrive through bilingual instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Beginning at birth through early intervention services and continuing through graduation, we provide a rigorous, standards-based education that fosters academic excellence, communication, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.

ENCSD empowers students to become confident, independent self- advocates prepared for higher education, careers, and meaningful participation in their communities. We partner with families by providing guidance, resources, and support that strengthen communication and student success from the earliest stages of development.

As North Carolina's statewide resource for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and youth, ENCSD collaborates with families, local agencies, early intervention providers, and community partners to expand access to services and opportunities. Through leadership, advocacy, and partnership, we advance communication, support, and opportunities that empower every Deaf and Hard of Hearing learner to reach their full potential.

Motto

Where Language Opens Doors and Dreams Become Reality.
