Based on the difficulty and shortage of Skilled, Highly Qualified teachers we are designating a sign on bonus amount of $7500 for 115c licensed educators whose primary duties are classroom instruction. Highly Qualified is defined as having obtained a NC DPI Certified Teaching license with K-6 Elementary Teacher and Deaf and Hard of Hearing endorsements.
The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) is a state school serving the 54 easternmost counties that provides a specialized learning environment for deaf and hard of hearing students, kindergarten through 12th grade, following a typical school calendar. The ENCSD offers students an academic setting with standards-based instruction, low classroom ratios, career and vocational skills development, current technology, and an overall accessible environment for learning through American Sign Language. A boarding program is available for enrolled students residing outside of Wilson County. The ENCSD seeks to promote both intentional and experiential learning to provide continued advancement in student academic achievement and social/emotional well-being.
We are actively recruiting for a School Educator, working title: Kindergarten Teacher. The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic instructional activities with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. This position plans lessons and instructs students in activities according to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, designed to promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development for kindergarten students.
This is a 10-month position that follows the Academic Calendar. School Educator monthly pay is based on education level and years of experience applicable to the NC Dept of Public Instruction Certified Teacher Salary Schedule. In addition to base pay, teachers at ENCSD are paid a teaching supplement of 8% of their monthly base pay. This position vacancy will remain open until filled.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as the ability to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. If you are currently licensed in NC or other state, PLEASE ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR TEACHING LICENSE.
Management will give preference to applicants who are currently licensed as an Educator with the NC Dept of Public Instruction and to applicants who can communicate effectively using American Sign Language.
Successful candidates will be expected to attend American Sign Language (ASL) classes with the goal being to have the ability to communicate in ASL successfully within 3 years from date of hire.
